Savouring Sicily

May 30 - June 9

Like gelato, cannoli, and chocolate? What about sumptuous pasta and delicious wines grown in volcanic soils?

Want to explore the cultural mosaic of the Mediterranean’s largest island? How about wandering through medieval castles and visiting baroque masterpieces designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites?

If tantalizing treats, both cultural and gastronomic, interest you, join us for a 11-day experience of the culture and foodways of Sicily!

Under the experienced guidance of Theresa Moran, David Bell and Susi Kimbell, we’ll travel Sicily’s Eastern “Greek” coast to see and taste this unique island’s rich history of food and wine traditions. From our base in Ortigia, we will trace the diverse influences on Sicily, from the ancient Greeks to the Arab conquest and the Spanish empire. Greek and Roman ruins, organic wineries and farms, along with the vibrant cities of Syracuse and Catania, will feed both body and soul.

During our time on the island, we will delve deep into how something so simple as a delicious meal can be a catalyst for cultural identity. We will also learn about the historical and contemporary reach of Sicilian olive oil, wine, chocolate. And while we will make sure to sample pistachios, almonds, and ricotta, there will be plenty of time for the lively markets, the beach, and relaxing in beautiful piazzas.
