The Covid 19 crisis has forced us to change our plans for this Summer course. Ancient Greek will go on-line for short “taster” courses from 3rd – 8th August 2020 and 9th-14th August 2020.

INTERMEDIATE GREEK Week 1 Monday 3rd – Saturday 8th August 17:00 – 19:00 Italian time (UTC+2)

INTERMEDIATE GREEK Week 2 Sunday 9th – Friday 14th August 14:00 – 16:00 Italian time (UTC+2)

The online courses will consist of 6 x 120-minute classes which will take place between the 3rd and 8th of August. Since these are taster sessions, we have decided to focus on the text of Plato’s Apology in a way that will allow all of you to participate regardless of your familiarity with Greek. Plato’s Apology is one of the best-known works of ancient Greek literature, in which the voice of Socrates can be clearly heard. We will examine not only the language, but also the philosophical argument and Socrates’ novel rhetorical approach to the Athenian court, which condemned him to death but made his ideas famous.
